Robert  Shandorf  was a lifelong educator, passionate about literature, particularly that of American 20th century writers. Over his many years of teaching he received hundreds of letters and other expressions of gratitude from his students for opening their minds to the power of great works of fiction and poetry.  His love of language and his respect for those respecting and relishing it was remarkable. His favorite novel was The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and he was honored to work on the planning committee for St. Paul's Centennial Fitzgerald Celebration in 1996. He was, in every way, a teacher.
